Hollie (https://myblogismyboyfriend.wordpress.com) mentioned Criagslist in her blog last week and it made me think of my Craigslist experience.
I’ve been on and off dating sites for the past 15 years. I don’t know what made me think of trying Criagslist for a date a few years ago, but I did. Here was my first ad:
“Ok, Here I go, going to post my first ad on craigslist and I hope I don’t get too many crazy replies…Summer is my favorite season cause I love to camp so I’m hoping if things go well, we can end up camping together this summer (then gave a few more details about me). Please send me a normal pic of you wearing all your clothes (I feel I have to say this since this is craigslist. If that makes you smile, then please respond. I’m really nervous I’m gonna get a lot of weirdos) and Ill respond with a pic. Why am I doing this?!?! Well, I’m always willing to try something once. =)”
I learned that people aren’t too crazy on craigslist…or at least, 98% of them found it funny that I did ask for a normal pic which was a sigh of relief. I received tons of responses. I met several guys and they were nice guys but just no chemistry. And also they were short. Haha.
My next Craigslist post was titled “Ping Pong?” and I wrote the following:
“Wanna play ping pong some time? The Highlands Tavern in Denver has a ping pong table and I think its a great place for a first date. My summer has included hiking, camping, and shows at Red Rocks. If you have done any of these, send me an email! =) I’d like you to be 5’8 or taller. Please send me a pic and Ill respond with a pic. Oh, and not looking to break up a marriage or add spice to your marriage so please be single.”
The last sentence I felt I had to include becaue I did get the vibe that a few guys were just hoping for a “hook up.” I found out many guys love ping pong and once again, I received tons of replies. Met a few more and again, they were all decent, nice guys. One guy was terrible at ping pong (which I still find funny since he answered my ping pong ad) but there was great chemistry between the two of us. We went on several dates together. At one point he said though: “Denver’s downtown scene sucks. I can’t wait to get back to Chicago.” Once those words came out of his mouth, I knew it wasn’t meant to be.
So believe it our not, I actually would recommend Craigslist as a way to meet someone. As always, just meet in a public place and then see where it goes
